The Hawkeyes fell three points short in Ames, trapped in the same box they’ve always played in. Cautious routes and a passing game that refuses to breathe. Even glimpses of promise, like Gronowski’s 22-yard completion, couldn’t break them free from their rectangle of comfort.

Iowa Falls to Iowa State 16-13 in Annual CyHawk Series Matchup

The Hawkeyes came up just short in Ames, falling 16-13 to No. 16 Iowa State in a rivalry game that slipped away in the final minutes. Despite a strong defensive showing and improved play from QB Mark Gronowski, Iowa’s offense couldn’t find enough answers as the Cyclones snapped the Hawkeyes’ six-game win streak at Jack Trice Stadium.

Hawkeyes shooting woes continue against Iowa State. By Mark Freie (@markfreie) IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones (7-1) saw five different players reach double-digit scoring totals in their 90-75 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-3) on Friday night. Cyclone junior Naz Long led all scorers for the Cyclones with 21 points including five 3-point shots. Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery gave praise to Fred Hoiberg and the Cyclones. “This is a good Iowa State team who has a ton of playmakers,” McCaffery said. “[Abdel] Nader was one of those guys who really impacted the game for them tonight.” … Continued

Sitting in Tampa Bay Times Forum on a Sunday evening back in December, I took in game between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. In that game, Rangers star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, in his first game back from injury, made 37 saves and the blue shirts power play went a perfect 3-3 in route to a hard fought 4-3 victory.
