The Iowa men’s and women’s basketball teams will make their first public appearance of the season on Oct. 19 in the Black and Gold Blowout, which will take place in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The event begins at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.
More details on the season-opening appearance were released Wednesday by the UI Athletics Department.
The Black and Gold Blowout — which will include full team introductions — will showcase scrimmages by both teams at some point during the night. Additionally, the men’s team will be holding a dunk contest and the women’s team will participate in a 3-point contest.
Former Hawkeye basketball players Roy Marble, Greg Stokes, Luke Recker, and Adam Haluska will judge the dunk contest.
Heading into the 2012-13 campaign, the men’s squad returns eight lettermen from a team that won 18 games under head coach Fran McCaffery and advanced to the second round of the NIT.
Lisa Bluder’s squad also returns eight letter winners, including all-Big honorees Jaime Printy and Morgan Johnson. Bluder and Co. will be seeking their sixth straight NCAA tournament berth.
