*Disclaimer: This article contains material that may be deemed inappropriate for minors*

The description that Witching Hour gave for this event was “The best of new voices in comedy in the stand-up and improv worlds.” And they were right. The jokes were funny and the atmosphere felt very chill and comfortable. The show began with Super Talent Show doing a music number to introduce themselves. Super Talent Show consists of members Steven King, Nicky Martin, and Blake Burkhart. Their skit was about time travel.

The first step on our time traveling adventures was medieval times where the guys met a fancy king, Blake, who sang and had donut rings.

The next stop was in Los Angeles in the 20th century. Nicky happened upon a celebrity orgy that consisted of only Jack Nicholson and Randy Newman.

They then met Pinky Blinders who wanted to know about his Netflix show. Finally, Nick was an angry pencil who writes time. The angry pencil then started beating up Blake which resulted in Billy Mays, Steven, to pop up and ask, “Has this ever happened to you?” They then started praying to God so that they could return to their own time. This was the introduction to Cleveland Anderson.

via: witchinghourfestival.com

Anderson got up on stage and admitted to having smoked weed outside of The Mill to try to calm his nerves. This received applause from the crowd and Anderson then told the crowd to clap for themselves because he hadn’t even said anything and he was already getting applause.

Anderson then told his jokes. He joked about weed, being in Ubers while high, Uber drivers wanting to talk to you and you wanting to murder them, and wanting to make good money. His plan was to be the guy that says the n-word for white rappers. The only problem was that he didn’t know who to send the demo track to.

Blake then came on stage as Shleppy Sinclair (I think that’s what he said). He made jokes that are the type of jokes that you know you shouldn’t laugh at but you still do even though the jokes are really stupid. After he finished, Fran Hoepfner came on stage.

via: witchinghourfestival.com

Fran joked about how adults tend to have crushes on anybody who is nice to us. She talked about how she made a Facebook group and added all her crushes on it. She compared it to the Stanford Prison Experiment but called her Facebook group, “the cute version.” After Fran finished, Ghouldini arrived on stage.

He sang a song about vampires who eat ass. He then sang a country western song which featured the amazing lyric of “The confederate flag stands for corpse fucking.” That’s literally what the song was about. Him going down south, dying, and then getting his corpse fucked. He finished by saying, “Have unpleasant dreams.” Which after a song about ass eating vampires and corpse fucking, I probably will.

via: witchinghourfestival.com

Arish Singh continued the jokes by pretending he was in August 2016. He wanted all the Republicans to yell what minority group they hated and wanted violence to be centered on when he shouted, “race wars.” He also wanted the Democrats to stand up and cheer when he said, “class wars.” The rest of his set was about Jeff Dunham and how he is 90% to blame for Islamophobia. He brought out a puppet and made some jokes before saying that it’s 2016 and “Ventriloquism is Terrorism.” The night ended with the President of 2020, Steveus, rapping making a parody of Kanye West.

I didn’t know what to expect when I showed up at The Mill. Even though, I didn’t laugh 100% of the time I still found the show hilarious. It was an interesting experience and I thought Super Talent Show and Friends had a great show. If given the chance, I would definitely see all of the performers again.

Soccer is the word used by people who live in the United States. Futbol is used by everybody else.

The game itself is quite simple. You and your team have 90 minutes to score a goal. No hands, except for your goalie but he/she is there to stop the ball from going in. You and your team have to pass the ball to each other in order for someone from your team to score. A total of 11 play at one time, this number includes the goalie.

Soccer also includes no timeouts. Your coach can’t call a timeout in the middle of the game to tell you what you’re doing wrong or to give you a quick breather. Nope. He/She has to wait until 45 minutes have gone by and its halftime or the game ends. As for substitutions? Most competitions allow for only three substitutions.

Poster of Tournament. (photo via: concacaf.com)

From June 3 until June 26 the Copa America will be taking place. The hosts? The good old USA. (I sadly could not get any tickets for any games). The Copa America brings together every country, who qualifies, that belong in either North, Central, and South America. Due to being hosts, USA automatically qualified. Mexico also automatically qualified. There are a total of 16 teams who will be attempting to win the trophy.

You see, like any sport, winning a trophy gives you pride at the fact that the team you supported won. At the international level in soccer it’s more than just team pride. It’s national pride. Nothing feels better than telling people your team is better than theirs. Bet on your team at fun888asia. Actually, one thing does and that’s telling people that your national country is better than theirs. No matter the topic.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because there is a stereotype that all Latinos are obsessed with soccer. This stereotype is both true and false. While you can find about 30 Latinos sitting around watching a game. You will also find about 30 other Latinos who couldn’t care less. The enjoyment of soccer has nothing to do with race, culture, or family. It has to do with personality. My mother hates when I spend all day watching soccer games but my uncle will be seated right next to me.

There are may reasons why some people choose not to watch soccer and the main one is that there are times when neither team is able to score and the game, if it’s not a championship game, will end in a tie. This leads many people to say, “Soccer is boring because sometimes it ends in a tie.” Well yes and no. Matches sometimes do end in ties but that’s not boring. That’s the beauty of it. In basketball, you know that scoring will consistently happen. In soccer, you don’t know. It’s the suspense of knowing that the game could go on for 89 minutes and then someone scores. Your team could lose the game at the very last minute. On the flip side, your team could win at the very last minute.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-31926" src="http://krui.fm/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/laprensa.hm_.jpg" alt="Group Stage. Top two teams from each group will advance to quarterfinals. (photo via: laprensa.hn)

In honor of the 2016 Copa America I wanted to show not only amazing talent done by these soccer players but also the goals in an attempt to convince people to watch the Copa America and cheer on their national side. (Or just pick the team with the hottest players). I will of course be cheering for Mexico and USA.

The 2015 Copa America was hosted by Chile. The final came down to Argentina and Chile with the winner of the tournament being Chile due to penalties. Hopefully the host’s winning will be repeated this year.

If neither USA or Mexico wins, you will find me crying in the corner.

Here’s a video of moments that made up the 2015 Copa America. Some moments are goals and skills and others are fights and arguments. (Which to be honest, are probably my favorite part).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPzhXwm8184

As I said before a total of 16 teams will be playing in the tournament. I have decided to include those teams here as well as how they did in the 2015 Copa America and their current FIFA Ranking. From these, you can go to the Copa America website and create a bracket. If you so wish.

If you don’t care to watch, that’s fine. You can join my mother in her judgment of me. If you would like to see what the big deal is then I highly recommend you watch. You can watch on ESPN, Fox, find the matches illegally online, find the matches legally online or you can watch on the Spanish channel, Univison. Even if you don’t want to watch the actual game, just listen to the commentary. It’s hilarious.

Soccer isn’t something that every single Latino loves and it isn’t a boring sport. I would rather watch a 90 minute scoreless soccer match than a basketball game and basketball is my second favorite sport.

Regardless of whether or not you want to watch:

Here’s a video of fights that happened in 2015. Because they always make me laugh.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fFABx6mAy4

Here’s a video of goal celebration fails. Because these always make me laugh.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5sF4PUtnpQ

Here’s a video of some goals from 2015. If you don’t want to see all 100, skip to 14:58 to see the top 20. 16:37 to see the top 10 and 17:30 to see the top 5. (Order is subjective).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UCGGpQCszQ

My point is, watch soccer. It’s eventful, suspenseful, blows your mind, and at times, hilarious.

UPDATE on 2016 Copa America:

Group A: U.S. and Colombia advanced to Quarterfinals. Costa Rica and Paraguay knocked out.

This is the eighth article of the column titled “Living in White America.” Every month there will be a new article discussing how one immigrant group, Latinos, live in America. This column will have articles dealing with anything and everything that concerns Latinos, this could include political and social talks. Some articles may discuss a culture of a different Latino group and interviews with a variety of Latinos will be added as well as interviews with non-Latinos asking for their opinion. Discrimination against Latinos has gone on long enough and now it’s time people get a look into a world they dislike so much.

With anything in life you already have preconceived ideas and stereotypes about that topic, whether it’s a person or an object. We use these ideas (either told to us by our parents, our friends, or the media) in order to go through life. For this article, I have decided to gather five myths that people have about Hispanics and Latinos and debunk them. While this isn’t an attempt to make you feel bad about believing them, this is an attempt to open your mind. These aren’t the only myths about Latinos, but they are the most common ones heard.

Myth #1: All Immigrants are from Mexico

(photo via: pewhispanic.org)

To a large number of people whenever they see a brown person they think, “They must be Mexican” and happily go about their day. Unless they are racist. Then they are angry for the rest of day. I’m guessing. I’ve never hung out with a racist before (for obvious reasons).

A percentage of the time, this person would be right. However, Mexicans don’t make up 100% of the Latino group (that would be outrageous). Immigrants who come to the United States for a better life are also from Cuba, Panama, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, and many other countries that belong to Latin America. Assuming that someone with brown skin is Mexican is hurtful for many reasons.

I should also point out that not all immigrants come from Latin American countries. A number of immigrants come from European and Asian countries. The fact that some people tend to ignore this fact is disappointing. As of today the vast majority of us are descended from immigrants. At one point or another, our ancestors emigrated from one place to another. So the next time you say or think, “All immigrants are Mexican” pause for a second and ask yourself if your ancestral family were Mexican. If your answer is no then you realize that statement is false.

Myth #2: All Latinos are immigrants

Immigration is something that has become associated with the Latino community. The majority of the year, Hispanics and Latinos aren’t talked about (to the point of being ignored) and then someone says the word immigration and suddenly it turns into a “who-can-give-Latinos-the-most-insults-in-the-least-amount-of-time-possible” game.

One key thing that people believe is that ALL Latinos are immigrants. Well I am Latina but I am not an immigrant. Before you say “well your parents are immigrants,” yes, yes they are. Both my mother and my father were born and raised in Mexico. On the contrary, I was born in Iowa City, Iowa and raised in a small Iowan town. I have been and am currently being educated in the U.S. My home country is the United States. The word immigrant means “a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.” The United States isn’t a foreign country to me. Therefore, I am not an immigrant. The children of Latino immigrants aren’t immigrants by default.

Myth #3: All undocumented immigrants are Latino

(photo via: immigration.procon.org)

Keeping with the theme of immigration, let’s talk about undocumented immigrants. My guess is that your first thought was “Mexicans” or “Latinos” While I won’t deny that the majority of undocumented immigrants are from Mexico and Latin American countries, we can’t ignore the fact that undocumented immigrants come from all over the world: Asia, Europe, Canada, Africa and other countries add to the number of undocumented immigrants. So saying “Deport all the illegals to Mexico!” isn’t going to do much good since there will be a large number of Asians and Europeans walking around Mexico all confused (it would be kind of funny but a bad funny).

Myth #4: All Latinos look the same.

This one makes me laugh all the time. Reason? Look at this photo.

(onsizzle.com)

Not only do (white) people say that all Latinos look the same but also that all Asians look the same. So I hear that and then I see this. When I looked at the top left picture I thought Matt Bomer was on there twice. He’s not. Or maybe he is to be completely honest I’m still not 100% certain if he is or not. Which basically proves my point. I think a majority of people who share a similar heritage background tend to have similar features and I’m not denying that some Latinos do tend to have similar characteristics but that doesn’t mean that ALL Latinos look alike. As an example look at these pictures below and pick out the Latina.

(photo via: huffingtonpost.com)

(photo via: huffingtonpost.com)

(photo via: speakerscorner.me)

If you only picked Sofia Vergara, who is of Colombian decent, you are 1/3 correct. The other two? They are also Latina. Sara Paxton’s mom was born in Mexico and raised there. Alexis Bledel has both Mexican and Argentinian heritage. To be honest, I didn’t know Alexis Bledel and Sara Paxton were Latina until I looked at the Huffington Post’s article titled 27 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Latino, which goes to show that we shouldn’t make judgments based on people’s looks.

Myth #5: All Latinos speak Spanish

(photo via:memegenerator.net)

In my March article, titled Difference in Spanish Dialects , I mentioned that the term, Hispanic, is in reference to language (aka Spanish). Latino is in reference to the geographical location of a country aka south of the United States.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because a country in Latin America can be both a Hispanic country and a Latin country. However, a country in Latin America can be a Latin country but NOT a Hispanic country. Let me use an example. Brazil is a country in South America but the people of Brazil (Brazilians) don’t speak Spanish.

*GASP.* They speak Portuguese. Brazilians are Latinos and they don’t speak Spanish and there are other countries in Latin America in which the people don’t speak Spanish. There are also people who descend from a Hispanic country and don’t speak Spanish.

*GASP* As children of native Spanish speakers we are put into English-speaking schools, with English-speaking classmates, where the only language spoken is English (sometimes Spanish, but it’s done mockingly). Some native Spanish speakers then decide that they aren’t going to teach their children Spanish in order to help them fit in better with U.S. society. Thus while this child is a Latino or Latina they may not speak Spanish.

Conclusion: Myths about a culture or a group of people are typically false. It is our job to research and discover the truth of certain myths. While these five myths aren’t the only myths that Latinos have to deal with, starting with these is a good start.

It’s important to get to know others for who they are as a person and not by the color of the skin. While that phrase has been uttered countless times its still important. Some people (white) may think there is no racism. A little secret: even if you don’t see the racism outright, it’s there. It’s underneath the surface and with it comes stereotypes and prejudices about others whose skin isn’t white. Hearing others out and ignoring the myths is something we ALL need to work on if we want America to be great.

P.S. Notice how I didn’t put “again”. Taking into account U.S.A. history when was America was great? When Christopher Columbus stepped off his boat and murdered thousands?

Or how about when millions of people were forcibly taken from their native country and forced into slavery because the white man was too lazy to do his own work and they were deemed as inhuman so that the white man could justify his reasoning for slavery?

Or after being freed of slavery, the same group of people was still deemed as inhuman and weren’t given civil rights? Something they still struggle with today!

There are other instances in history in which the moral landscape has changed to accommodate it for the white man. When has America ever been great? The myth that white is better has torn this country apart from the moment that Columbus “discovered” America. In order for America to FINALLY be great we MUST listen to each other and we MUST debunk the myths we have of others.

For a great read, check out James W. Loewen’s book Lies My Teacher Told Me. It will be worth your time and it will open your mind, I promise.

Check out these 5 scary myths aka the scary monsters Latino parents use to scare their children into behaving. Some of these I had no idea about which goes to show that even though Latino cultures share similarities we have our differences. Enjoy!

This is the sixth article of the column titled “Living in White America.” Every month there will be a new article discussing how one immigrant group, Hispanics/Latinos, live in America. This column will have articles dealing with anything and everything that concerns Hispanics/Latinos, this could include political and social talks. Some articles may discuss a culture of a different Hispanic/Latino group and interviews with a variety of Hispanics /Latinos will be added as well as interviews with non-Hispanics asking for their opinion. Discrimination against Hispanics and Latinos has gone on long enough and now it’s time people get a look into a world they dislike so much.

From the very beginning of the night, the crowd was ready for Sage Francis. With only 4 days to promote his arrival, there was a high chance that not many of people would be able to go see him. However, the venue was packed with fans who were buzzing at the chance to see Sage. Before Sage took the stage it was AWTHNTKTS (AW-THN-T-KTS ) who began the night with a crazy amount of energy.

I had decided days before the concert that I wasn’t going to listen to the music of either AWTHNTKTS or Sage Francis. The reason being that I wanted to be able to formulate an opinion as the concert happened and not have pre-determined ideas. I’m so glad that I decided to wait until the concert to hear their music because both hip-hop/rap performances were absolutely amazing. From the very beginning to the very end there was a massive amount of energy and excitement that filled the venue. AWTHNTKTS are a hip-hop collective from Iowa City consisting of

three emcees and a DJ named ION, johndope, Romulan, and DJ johnnysixx. As the group got ready to take the stage I listened to the conversations taking place around me. Most of them, if not all, were about Sage Francis and how excited they were to watch him. AWTHNTKTS began their set and then one of the members said, “It’s about to be a really good show” and he was right.

From the get-go the entire night was full energy and was a really good show. People were nodding along to the beat and as I surveyed the crowd it was clear that people had shown up for a good time. I enjoyed listening to this group not only because I already like the genres of hip-hop and rap but because they actually sounded good and looked like they were having a great time which transferred to how the crowd felt.

http://krui.fm/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/video-1460082615.mp4

After the end of their set and after waiting for a bit, it was finally time for Sage Francis. As I looked over at the crowd the people in the front seemed much more excited than those in the back. If I had been standing in the back then I don’t think I would have gotten the same experience out of either performances.

After there had been a cancellation, Sage was asked if he wanted to perform and he had said, as he told the crowd, “let’s do this shit”. A few minutes before Sage actually got on stage I heard someone say, “Bizarre Ride cancelled. Which is fine because Sage is better anyway.” This gave me hope that the night would continue to be energetic and worth my time. It totally was. The minute Sage got onstage there was instant cheering. In fact, every action he did and every word he said got a cheer from the audience.

http://krui.fm/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/video-1460098644.mp4

Not only did Sage lower the music multiple times throughout his set so that lyrics, similar to the ones above, could be heard better but he also belted out some pretty great raps.

http://krui.fm/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/video-1460098697.mp4

During the night, Sage would pause and tell a story. One of his stories was to set up to a song. He discussed how a girl had told him to “get over yourself” and that this caused him to write songs about heartbreak. He even mentioned that he was “the Taylor Swift of underground hip-hop” but that he grew up and evolved and was actually embarrassed of the heartbreak songs. At the end of his story and before jumping into his next song Sage said, “We’re all pieces of shit, you live long enough you become a piece of shit.” What did the crowd do? They cheered.

Part of my amazing experience at Sage Francis’ concert was the crowd themselves. Frankly, a lot of them were tipsy or full-blown drunk but it definitely helped the atmosphere. In fact, his fans are so loyal to him that even a pregnant women, who at the end of the show I discovered was named Allison (not sure if correct spelling), was in attendance. She was there with her partner, Drew, and both of them were big Sage fans. So much in fact that they will be naming their daughter Sage. Seeing this dedication not only from them but from other fans who were in attendance aided in my listening and enjoyment of Sage Francis. Both AWTHNTKTS and Sage Francis displayed great talent and amazing energy that made you want to get up and have fun. Which I did.

I highly recommend that you listen to both as they will be get you energy up and will be worth your time and if they aren’t well in the words of AWTHNTKTS, “If ya ain’t down for hip-hop please leave.”

“Faust is here. Are you kidding me? Faust is here!” said a very excited lady standing right next to me as we waited for Faust, the German Krautrock band to take the stage. Faust had formed in the 70’s, split up, and then returned as two separate bands. The one that I saw on the rainy night of April the 5th was not at all what I expected. However, before I could listen to Faust, I listened to their two openers, Bob Bucko Jr. and Mamiffer.

What I thought was going to be the longest night of life ended up being not so bad. I showed up at Gabe’s pretty early and I sat down at one of the tables and waited. Since I was already not sure how this night was going to go I kept looking at the time. When it finally turned 8:00 I waited for Bob Bucko Jr to start his set. Bob took forever to

(gif via: blasphumusradio.com)

actually start. Okay… it was 10 minutes. Bob walked up and just started playing like it was no big deal. As I sat at my table and listened to Bob Bucko Jr. I couldn’t stop staring at the video that was placed next to him. Which to be fair was probably his purpose. While I did think that Bob was talented his style of music isn’t for me mainly due to the fact that during his entire set he didn’t sing many words and I need words in my music. The crowd however was all about Bob Bucko Jr. They stared intently at the video and at him. They nodded their heads to the beat of his music. One guy even had his eyes closed and was swaying from side to side.

http://krui.fm/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/video-1459924294.mp4

After Bob Bucko Jr finished his set, Mamiffer took the stage. Now with them, I thought they were talented but I

(photo via: facebook.com/mamiffer)

didn’t really like their music. Mainly because for the first 10 minutes, it sounded like static or like a plane. Frankly I’m still debating, with little interjects of guitar and what I think was a bass. The band consists of three performers, two guys and one girl. When the girl finally started singing I couldn’t understand a word she said. Also, during their entire set they stayed at the same pace the entire time and I couldn’t handle that.

The crowd on the other hand was doing pretty much the same thing that they had been doing during Bob Bucko Jr’s set, only there were more people. About half of the crowd had their eyes closed as they swayed back and forth and the other half had their eyes open but they were still swaying back and forth. Both Bob Bucko J0.r and Mamiffer are talented and they weren’t as bad as I had thought they would be.

By the time Mamiffer had ended their set, the crowd had grown to pretty much the entire upstairs part of Gabe’s. I decided to get closer to the stage so I could pictures, but my camera was being dumb and my phone isn’t that great so I decided to not give a terrible impression to not show the pictures or videos I took (they look really bad). Anyway, as I got up from the table I heard a guy say, “I’ve seen them before. They’re good but they’re not awesome.”

(photo via: bureau-b.com)

However almost immediately after he said that, I ended up in front the lady who was extremely excited at the fact that Faust was there.

As the band, consisting of Jean-Herve Peron, Werner Diermaier, and Maxime Manac’h, took the stage I listened to what people around me were saying. Other than the more commonly phrase, “This is going to be great.” I heard “You never know what they’re going to do” and “They have instruments that I didn’t even know about.” Finally JHP started talking and pretty much after anything he said it got huge cheers from the crowd. Then he said, “Thank you for your smiles and the sparkles in your eyes” I was curious so I looked and about 95% of the audience (of what I could see) had smiles and sparkles in their eyes. I had a feeling that no matter what the band did that crowd would have still applauded them.

They got started and I wanted to leave. They started out with a slow song similar to what both Bob Bucko Jr. and Mammifer had done and I couldn’t handle it. Don’t get me wrong, they had talent but I didn’t want to listen to two hours of the same things that I had listened to for two hours before.

Thankfully, they picked up the pace and the rock and electronic music began. I like fast-paced music so for me, this was glorious. The rest of the concert slowed down as the night progressed but it wasn’t like the other two performances. Mainly because at one point they had a jackhammer on stage and for another song they went into the crowd and had the entire crowd singing along with them (I got to touch Maxime. He seemed nice). Faust has existed in one way or another for many years and it was clear why.

Before April 5th if you had asked me what I thought of Faust I would have said “eh.” After April 5th, I’ll be saying, ” They’re good, really good.”

(photo via: www.gringos.com)

Location, talent of national soccer teams, and culture are just a few things of many that Hispanic and/or Latin countries differ in. One that may be surprising is the language. “What?” is probably the question you’re asking right now, so let me explain. There are countries whose national language is Spanish and are classified as Hispanic and Latin countries, but there are also countries who speak languages other than Spanish and are still classified as Latin countries. While people from Spain do speak Spanish they ARE NOT a Latin country.

Short Lesson: Hispanic is in reference to language while Latino/a is in reference to geographical location. Hispanic is for people who are from a country whose primary language is Spanish. (Some don’t like to identify as Hispanic and that’s okay. Just ask before you call them that.)

Latino/a means anybody who is from a country in Latin America. (Which is mostly every country below the United States of America.) This being explained, the terms Hispanic and Latino/a are used in the US to determine groups.

(photo via: www.pinterest.com

If you go to a Latin country, I doubt they’ll say “I identify as Latina/o” and if they do, videotape it because I won’t believe you. That being said, even in the United States there are people who don’t want to be labeled as Hispanic or Latina/o, but by their nationality. It’s always important to make sure you know before you begin labeling people.

For example, I identify as Mexican-American and since Mexico’s primary language is Spanish, then I can say I’m Hispanic. Since Mexico is below the United States of America, I can also call myself Latina. Therefore, I am Hispanic and Latina, but I only say this when someone asks me what I identify as when I’m in the Untied States. I don’t go to Mexico and tell people I’m Hispanic/Latina. (They’d probably stare at me like I was crazy and run away.)

Let’s say that Maria is from Spain. She speaks Spanish and identifies as a Spaniard. Maria can identify as Hispanic due to Spain being a Spanish speaking country, but because Spain is in Europe and not a part of Latin America she cannot identify as Latina. (If you are still unclear about the difference between Hispanic and Latino/a click here.)

(photo via: latinaish.com)

While a large number of countries in Latin America speak Spanish, the reason that I say the language is different is because of the way that it is spoken. In Latin America, just because Spanish is spoken by a large number of countries it DOES NOT mean that every person in different countries are the same nationality. Labeling everyone who speaks Spanish as Mexican is absurd for many reasons but I’ll stick with the language thing for now. (Check out this video that talks about why not all Latinos are Mexicans.)

As examples of dialects I shall compare male soccer players. There’s no special reason that I’m using them as examples other than the fact of their nationality and that a few of them move around from place to place but still retain their native dialect. Well that, and the fact that I love soccer.

Before we get in to it, I need to clarify one thing. These dialects aren’t the only way that the people of these certain countries speak. There are countless others but if I was to talk about every single Spanish dialect in every single Hispanic and/or Latin country I don’t think I would do anything else for a solid month at the very least. If you don’t know Spanish thats quite alright. Just listen to the way that the words are pronounced. You should be able to hear the differences. (I hope. Either way here’s a video of soccer players doing cool stuff.)

Okay. Let’s get started.

First up, a Mexican Soccer Player. His name is Javier “Chichartio” Hernandez. (That’s not his middle name, that’s his nickname.) He plays for the German club Bayer Leverkusen and for the Mexico National Football Team. He currently resides in Germany, but before that he lived in Spain playing for Real Madrid, and before that he lived in England where he played with Manchester United. He started his career in Mexico before heading off to Europe. The reason that this is important is because while he has lived in different places and speaks English, he is Mexican and regardless of where he has lived you can still hear the dialect of Spanish that many people in the United States are used to hearing. Such as the speed of which it is talked, and the vocab and pronunciation that you may learn in Spanish class. The actual interview isn’t important. Oh, and he’s the guy in the jersey.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ygO_Qm9VAA

Next up, is James Rodriguez. He is a Colombian soccer player who currently plays in Spain for the team Real Madrid and is a part of the Colombian National Football Team. Before arriving in Spain he played for teams in Argentina, Portugal, and France. The speed at which he talks Spanish makes it clearer to understand. His vocab varies than that of Javier’s which helps demonstrate how Spanish varies from country to country. Again, the interview itself isn’t important unless you think he’s cute. (A lot of people do. I won’t judge.)

Sergio Ramos is a Spanish soccer player who plays for the team Real Madrid and for the Spain National Football Team. He has played in Spain for the his whole career and the way he speaks is how people from Spain typically speak. There are parts of Spain that don’t speak Spanish, but thats a whole other thing. Once again, the interview isn’t important and Ramos is the guy in the jersey.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyUEw7uilI4

Let’s go to South American countries.

Claudio Bravo is a Chilean soccer player who plays for FC Barcelona and the Chile National Football Team. Bravo played in Chile before moving to Spain. His Spanish varies from that of Javier’s, James, and Ramos but it is nonetheless Spanish. Listen to him speaking below, and once again the actual interview isn’t important just the way he speaks.

Next up on our dialect tour is a Uruguayan player. His name is Luis Suarez and he currently plays for FC Barcelona in Spain and also plays for the Uruguay National Football Team. He has played in Uruguay, the Netherlands, and England before arriving in Spain. However, even with all these location changes, you can still hear the difference in the way he speaks Spanish.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32XbkgRpTkM

Next up is Lionel Messi who plays for FC Barcelona and the Argentina National Football Team. Sidenote: He’s the best soccer player in the world. (Open for discussion, but he’s the best player in the world.) Messi is an Argentinian player who, after leaving Argentina at a young age, traveled to Spain and has played there ever since. Here you can tell that he has managed to keep his native dialect even though he’s lived in Spain for a large portion of his life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7k0aAb-Sec

Sidenote: I should point out that I only used soccer players who have played or currently play for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid which are two teams in Spain. There are different soccer players that I could have chosen but I didn’t feel like it.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have the biggest rivalry in Spain. When they play each other it’s called “El Clásico” and just watch this video so you can see for yourself how intense games can get. Real Madrid is in white and Barcelona are in the blue and red stripes.

(photo via: www.livesportsreviews.com)

Their fans constantly argue about who is the best team but the most heated discussion comes from the question who is the best player in the world: Lionel Messi or Cristaino Ronaldo? Messi plays for Barcelona and Ronaldo plays for Madrid. The reason I’m explaining this is because it gives me a chance to tell people that FC Barcelona is the best team and Messi is the best player in the world. Of course, if you talk to a Real Madrid fan, they will say that Madrid is the best team and Ronaldo is the best player in the world but I think they’re just confused. However, they may say the same thing about me.

Soccer is a lifestyle in many Hispanic and/or Latina/o countries, so I thought I would give you a small insight into these two teams.

Moving on…

Spanish is spoken by many countries but each country has a distinct way that they speak it. The dialects that you heard are only a small portion spoken in these countries. It’s important to realize that because you can lump nationalities under the term Latino or Hispanic, it doesn’t mean that they are the same thing. Language is one of the most important aspect of culture. It is unfair to minimize that by simply saying, “They all speak Spanish so whats the difference?” There is a huge difference and hopefully this small dialect tour gave you some insight into the Spanish language.

(I also hope you decide that Barcelona is better than Real Madrid, but you know. Whatever you want. No pressure.)

This is the fifth article of the column titled “Living in White America.” Every month there will be a new article discussing how one immigrant group, Hispanics/Latinos, live in America.

(photo via: bandcamp.com)

The Echo and The Sound is made up of Brain Rich, who does vocals and guitar as well of as member Douglas Jewell who plays drums. My guess is that Rich is The Echo while Jewell is The Sound, however since they don’t exactly say who is who, it’s open to interpretation. They are based out of Los Angeles, California and their style of music ranges from punk-rock, blues-folk undertones, country-esque, and gothic cantina style. The EP has a sense of urgency and a strong sense of passion.

“Buffalo Mouth” is the third EP that The Echo and The Sound have released. However they call it a double EP because it has 4 tracks from their 2014 EP titled “It’s Execution” and it also features 8 brand new songs.

The first song on the album is “Weapons of Influence.” The song falls more into the category of punk rock. The first beats on the track make you want to get up and rage out. While the lyrics are hard to understand, the loudness and sharpness of the instruments makes up for it. It’s no wonder why The Echo and The Sound decided to bring forward this song from their previous EP.

“Who Says” is the second song on the EP and has a similar sound to the first song, however its not as rageful as its predecessor.”Virginia Law” is a mix of blues and punk. The two genres mix well together and the song makes you want to bounce along to the beat.

“The Devil Wears Green Eyes Twice” is the second song transferred from the 2014 EP and it’s a good thing they put it on this one as well because it makes you want to rock out. The lyrics are easier to understand than the previous songs but it’s one of the better songs on the EP.

“Louder Now” lives up to its name. This track is louder and more rock-esque than all the previous songs. It makes you want to get up and dance. Plus, I’m pretty sure it says a few cuss words like every 3 seconds.

“Murderer of One” is also on the last EP and the song starts out as the rest have: with a loud beat. However this song drops the faster tempo. Brian Rich makes his voice sound creepy and deep and it totally works. His vocals and the slower beat gave me chills. “Alice” is similar to its predecessor in the fact that it has a slower beat. The song is just as creepy as the previous one and Rich continues to have his creepy deep voice which makes the combination of a slow deep voice and a slow tempo work.

“One Trick Pony” is the last song that is brought over from their previous EP. It starts start out with a slow but rock beat. It continues this similar beat throughout the song. Rich’s voice is still sort of deep but his creepy factor is gone and it works for this song.

“War on Error” is all about Jewell. His drums start off the song and his drumming is emphasized more in this song than any other track. “Under the Sun” continues with the slower beats. Rich makes his voice deep again with an inkling of the creepy voice he had before. The tempo and voice match perfectly and make for an interesting song.

“One Last Midnight” has that usual rock sound. Rich’s voice matches perfectly with the track as he doesn’t make it extremely deep or extremely high. “Black & Gold” is fast tempo compared to the few previous that had come before it. It has the similar fast tempo and punk rock feeling that the first few songs displayed. It’s a perfect finisher for “Buffalo Mouth,” even though I still don’t understand why they called it that.

Grade: B+

Favorite Tracks: “The Devil Wears Green Eyes Twice”, “Murderer of One”, “Black & Gold”

“You look brown and you know Spanish; you must be Mexican.”

This phrase is commonly heard. The majority of people have gotten it in their heads that the only Hispanic group that exists is Mexicans. This couldn’t be farther from the truth, but this article isn’t going to be discussing that. I interviewed a Mexican-American, a Guatemalan, and a Puerto Rican and I asked them a few questions to get their perspective about their nationality, life, and feelings about their nationality and if given the choice where they would rather live.

Hoping to study Interior Design or finish studies as a Nurse

Nationality: Puerto Rican

(Interviews were done via text message and Facebook messenger. The opinions expressed are not the opinions of every single Mexican-American, Guatemalan, or Puerto Rican but solely those of the interviewees.)

What nationality do you identify as?

DCP: Mexican-American

MU: Guatemalteco

CL: I’m Puerto Rican and Honduran but I say I’m Puerto Rican more than I claim being Honduran.

How would you describe your culture?

DCP: I’m not sure there’s one Mexican-American culture. It’s all pretty subjective. I suppose if I had to describe it I would say its heavily influenced on Northern Mexican traditions. Desert culture. An emphasis on family ties. A strong appreciation for Spanish language, indigenous roots, mestizo influence, and modern mixing. I’d say Mexican-American in my family is the integration of Mexican characteristics with principles of typical American culture. Sort of a blend of ideas.

MU: Well, I used to live in Iowa… I’ve been living in Guatemala for about a year… it’s a beautiful color… The culture here is everywhere… If you go to Los Pueblos to the big city life you’ll find culture in every corner… what I like about there then in the USA is the kindness… Over here, everyone says “Hello”, “hi”, and whatever else to every stranger if you’re poor or rich. Todos saludan. (everybody greets each other)… I like the beautiful places that Guatemala has… its so strange but yet so beautiful.

CL: It is an island with a lot of history. Fighting to be citizens, making us part of the U.S. We are people with strong beliefs in who we are and are very opinionated.

Have there ever been moments when you felt like you needed to hide your nationality?

DCP: Yes actually. It’s really difficult because of my appearance, but there have been several occasions where I didn’t tell people of my nationality/heritage because I was afraid 1. I might intimidate them 2. They might be racist. Usually it’s the fear of racism. I’ve never necessarily felt embarrassed of my identity because it’s not something I have control over. If anything I’ve been proud of it because it give me a sense of uniqueness especially in a homogenous environment.

MU: Never had. Never will. I’m pretty proud of where my roots are from!

CL: Being in a place where there are a lot of Hispanics and most being Mexicans there are times where I just don’t say what I am and let them assume. We get a lot of Hispanics that make fun of what we eat, the way we speak, they like to mock us sometimes and instead of going through all of that I just quiet down.

Has it ever mattered to you if people automatically assume that you can speak Spanish?

DCP: Admittedly it doesn’t matter to me because they’re usually right. I’m obviously being profiled but I don’t usually notice because they tend to be right or do so with good intentions. I think it would matter to me if I didn’t or if I actually spoke a different language like Portuguese. My friends who fall into those categories tend to be pretty bothered by the Spanish speaking assumption.

MU: Nah… I think that’s a good thing. Being bilingual.

CL: Not at all. But that’s probably because I do know Spanish. It could bother people that look the part but don’t speak the part.

Does it bother you if people assume you are Mexican?

MU: Kinda… It’s not that big of a deal. People can be really ignorant!

CL: Yes people do assume we’re Mexican because the color of our skin and hair and because we speak Spanish and it does bother us because they assume Mexicans are the only Hispanic race there is and it’s not. We just seem to be forgotten of our existence sometimes to others.

Do you consider yourself Hispanic or Latino?

DCP: I consider myself Hispanic & Latino. They both matter to me a lot because they are incredibly different characteristics.

MU: I don’t believe there’s a difference between either of them. I believe they are the same thing.

CL: I consider myself more Hispanic because I’m just the type that speaks and looks the part.

Do you see a difference between how your family celebrates holidays in the United States vs how they celebrate in their home country?

DCP: Yes. For sure. For starters. Holidays aren’t as commercialized in Mexico and even fewer are celebrated. The whole notion of Thanksgiving is non-existent as are holidays like Cinco de Mayo. I do think Christmas is celebrated similarly however because of the emphasis on familial relationships and I think the strong presence of Catholicism makes Easter an even bigger deal than it is here.

MU: Yes, BIG difference. Over here at midnight, [for Christmas] they throw fireworks just if it was the 4th of July. People are outside of their homes watching fireworks and they go hug you and wish you a Merry Christmas. They give you atole or tamales if you are outside for free even if they don’t know you then after the fireworks everyone of your family sits on the table and eat and open presents.

CL: We do stay up late for Christmas, New Years. We stay up until midnight and greet each other with hugs and kisses when the time comes but the food we eat is definitely different. We don’t celebrate La Virgens birthday. I don’t think we believe in that.

What assumption about your culture bothers you the most?

DCP: I think the assumption that bothers me the most about Mexican culture is that everyone is undocumented. 1. because being undocumented is looked down upon by general society and I don’t think that’s fair. 2. because only a fraction of immigrants (of any kind) are undocumented. 3. because people don’t fully understand why people enter this country without proper documentation.

MU: The idea that Guatemalans are all like Indios or muerto de hambres.

CL: That we automatically say “Oye chico” and eat fried bananas.

How has racism impacted your life?

DCP: I suppose the fear of racism is a driving force for my approach to things. I know people are capable of hating me solely because of my nationality and because of that I am cautious and generally distrustful of the world around me.

MU: I think racism impacts every race but it hits the Hispanics or Latino race a lot. But if hasn’t impacted my life due to the fact that we don’t give up y no nos dejamos.

CL: Racism has opened my eyes to how many problems there are in this world even today just because of it when really we are all the same flesh and blood. We just have different backgrounds but doesn’t everybody? It’s taught me to not judge others by the cover of the book and to treat others the way I would want to get treated. It infuriates me when I see racism going on in our world but just one person like me can’t make much of a difference if racism has been going on since before we were alive.

Factoring everything good and bad that the United States has to offer and everything good or bad your nationalities country has to offer, if given the choice, where would you want to live and why?

DCP: I mean, it’s subjective and in my opinion I’d much rather live in the United States. The education system I’m offered here is at a higher level than the kind I could reach in Mexico and my goals for the future align more with opportunities offered here in the US. I’m Mexican-American but the US is my country.

MU: I believe even though I love Guatemala I would have to say USA because there’s more opportunities and you have a higher probability of becoming someone but only for a certain time because I’d come back and I would like to die in my land, Guatemala.

CL: My heart chooses Puerto Rico. My mind chooses the United States. Why? Because there are more opportunities here in the U.S. then there is somewhere else. People fight to be here for a reason, we deserve that chance too.

Is there anything that you would like people to understand about your culture?

DCP: Yes. I suppose I’d love for people to know that my culture isn’t necessarily unique or foreign, its just a little different from the person next to me. Its something I’m proud of and would love for other people to experience with an open mind.

MU: I should say the kindness of people here. The people that even though have less money are the ones who gladly give a helping hand.

CL: That it is not all bananas and a vacation there. There’s strong hardworking people that want to have a chance that the U.S. Americans have. A chance that we all deserve not just U.S. Puerto Ricans or illegal Hondurans. When they enter where we live they don’t have to fight to go to into our pais, they don’t have to a Puerto Rico test or an Honduras test to live where they live, to vacation where we live, to work where we live, so then why should we? We are people just as much as they are and we all deserve respect and opportunities that they have too.

Thank you to the interviewees.

While they’re are many people out there of different cultures within the Hispanic/Latino world, these three were able to give a small glimpse into the lives of different cultures. Each culture has its own ways of celebrating different things. Every culture has a different way of doing similar things. For example, without fail you can expect a Quinceañera done by almost any Hispanic or Latino culture.

Understanding different cultures will help all of us in the long run. It will allow us to be more open-minded and allow us to stretch our horizons past our comfort zone and see that Hispanics and Latinos are people just like everyone else.

This is the third article of the column titled “Living in White America.” Every month there will be a new article discussing how one immigrant group, Hispanics/Latinos, live in America. This column will have articles dealing with anything and everything that concerns Hispanics/Latinos, this could include political and social talks. Some articles may discuss a culture of a different Hispanic group and interviews with a variety of Hispanics /Latinos will be added as well as interviews with non-Hispanics asking for their opinion. Discrimination against Hispanics and Latinos has gone on long enough and now it’s time people get a look into a world they dislike so much.

“They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people.” These words were used to describe an entire ethnicity. They weren’t spoken by some random person on the street, they were spoken by someone who wants to be the President of the United States: Donald Trump, a reality TV Show host and a real estate tycoon.

In 15 words, he devalued every single hardworking Mexican. He spoke these words in the speech he used to announce his candidacy. In that same speech, Trump talked about how immigrants have no place here.

Since his birth, Trump has been surrounded by immigrants. Trump was born to the son of a German immigrant, and to a Scottish immigrant. Two of his wives are immigrants from the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Trump was born in the U.S., so upon his birth, he was automatically a citizen.

However, apparently that’s not important, because his mother’s skin was white. If immigration had shown up on her doorstep, the minute they saw her white face they would apologize and walk away. The lady with a brown face sitting on a bench? They would instantly walk up to her and assume she was illegal.

People say Trump is full anti-immigration, but I think he’s pro-immigration; ONLY if the immigrants look white. The reason being that he has a whole plan set up for immigration, but only for immigrants that come from Mexico.

His main points include building a wall and having Mexico pay for it and ending birthright citizenship. His flaw with ending birthright citizenship? Not only would I pack my bags and head to Mexico but Trump would have to buy a plane ticket and head to either Scotland or Germany. (Oh, and birthright citizenship is written into a little piece of paper called the Constitution.)

He says he wants to deport all illegal immigrants from the country. However, not all immigrants: just Mexicans. According to Trump,

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.”

Trump only said Mexico, so it’s okay people from Central and South America. You can stay in the United States! You’re not from Mexico!

Right now, Mexico is still trying to get over the national embarrassment of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the drug lord who escaped from maximum security prison. Again. After his escape, Trump decided to give his opinion.

Trump is threatening a man who is feared by an entire country. Very smart. That’s what I want in a president. For him to provoke a drug lord and mass murderer. Trump is right in one thing: Mexico has drugs and drug cartels. It is precisely because of these drug cartels that people flee to the United States. They control Mexico’s government at the local and federal level.

On September 26th 2014, 43 college students were attacked by local police ordered by the local drug cartel. What has Mexico done? They covered it up and are still covering it up. (Geez, I wonder why people are fleeing.)

Ever since his speech in the summer, Trump has gone on to say even more ridiculous stuff. However, his supporters are just like him. Ignorant and aggressive. In fact, a Honduran man went with fellow Latinos to a Trump rally. His experience was captured.

His feelings at the Trump rally are what many immigrants feel in their own home country. Fear. Not only did Trump’s supporters get his home country wrong, one man spit on him because of the color of his skin. Ronald is from Honduras, which is separated from Mexico by an entire country. This man is not Mexican, he is Honduran. But to Trump’s supporters and to Trump this doesn’t matter. He is brown, therefore he is Mexican.

Our parents and our peers come to America not to steal jobs, not to make the economy worse, they come to escape. They are scared of stepping out into their street. They come so they don’t have to feel that emotion anymore.

I put out a study on Facebook and asked my peers to answer three simple questions: What their ethnicity was, the chances of them voting for Trump, and why they would or wouldn’t vote for him. I got 35 responses. Out of the 35 only 9 said they were either Hispanic or Latino. That didn’t surprise me. I was raised with the phrase, “Don’t say or do anything that will get you in trouble. Stay out of it.” The parents of Hispanic/Latino children are raised to avoid trouble, to not stick their neck out. This comes from their own fears of their childhood.

In the survey, 23 people said they were white. When I looked at the stats of their chances of voting for Trump I was definitely surprised.

Eighteen said there was no chance of them voting for Trump. Some of my favorite responses included:

“Garbage shouldn’t run for president.”

“This country would be a complete joke if Donald Trump became president.”

“Because he is insane and doesn’t actually have a solid plan for the nation and he’s racist and impulsive. He’d jump us into a nuclear holocaust 5 mins after being swore in.”

“Several reasons: 1. He’s racist af. 2. He’s sexist af. 3. He will single handedly burn this country to the ground. 4. Those creepy comments he made about his daughter. 5. I don’t trust his face. He looks like Peter Pettigrew, if Peter Pettigrew had become a billionaire running a rat mafia. 6. I made a vow that if Trump were to become president I was legitimately going to move out of the country and I’m currently a broke college student and I guarantee I will not have my life together enough to move out of Iowa let alone the US by 2016. 7. #Bernie2k16.”

“He’s a racist motherfucker that would ruin literally fucking everything.”

The rest of the reasons that people wrote went along these same lines. Not only do they think that Trump is racist, but they also consider him a joke. Some didn’t even mention his racist comments, they just don’t want him as president.

The Hispanics and Latinos that filled out the response all had similar thoughts. They wouldn’t vote for him because of what he said about us. “Us,” as in the entire ethnicity of both Hispanics and Latinos.

One Latino wrote, “He’s disrespectful. A leader doesn’t need to offend anyone, more importantly make anyone else seem like less to be a president. A president cares about every human. Doesn’t think of the innocent kids that he also puts down or most importantly, probably even scares. We’re all human. We all deserve respect.” The rest also wrote how they had no respect for him.

One thing that I found more surprising than anything else was that not one single Hispanic or Latino wrote a cuss word when writing their response. Their responses talked about being disrespected and how Trump was rude and condescending.

Going back to what I said before, Hispanics and Latinos are raised to stay out of it, avoid conflict, mind their own business. It is our greatest flaw. We don’t get involved. We don’t push. We keep our heads down, and do what we need to do. And yet we still get discriminated against. The vast majority of us are workers, doctors, teachers, lawyers, actors, singers, and students with no criminal record, but when just one Hispanic or Latino breaks the law, our entire race feels the repercussions. Suddenly, we are all criminals and need to go back from where we came from.

On November 7th, Donald Trump hosted Saturday Night Live. The live comedy show is known for making fun of things that normally wouldn’t be made fun of. While most of their shows laugh at politicians and celebrities and how they act, this one made fun of something else. It made fun of an ethnicity.

Leading up to the show, protesters began popping up. These protesters were Latinos. They weren’t happy that offensive comments made about them were about to be taken as a joke. They were about to be made of fun of on national television. They held up signs that read “Stop the Hate”, “#RacismIsntFunny”, and “#DumpTrump”. They protested because the show wouldn’t be one rich white man hurling insults. . . It would be an entire cast of rich white people.

Trump’s monologue was the first thing that started off the show after the cold open. In it, he states that he can take a joke, makes fun of Rosie O’Donnell, and says hes rich, full of talent, and handsome.

The Latino protesters had said before the show that they would give $5,000 to anybody that called Trump a racist on the show. They weren’t joking and will give Larry David the money. While everybody considered it a joke, the Latino protesters did not. Trump called Mexicans criminals, but when the Latinos protested against him, they did nothing violent or criminal. They didn’t burn things, destroy things, or vandalize anything. It was a just a group of Latinos asking for respect. Latinos and Hispanics stay out of political issues and other things but when they do decide to stand up for themselves and ask for respect, they are taken as a joke.

This is important because Latinos and Hispanics are never taken seriously and in the words of John Leguizamo, a Colombian-born actor and producer, “This is celebrating somebody who, if he’d said those things about any other ethnic group, he would not be on SNL.” Sure, SNL is a comedy show and they can make fun of things that many wouldn’t, but I didn’t realize that that meant supporting racism.

This hurts because being Mexican isn’t just the color of your skin, or the place where you or your parents were born. Being Mexican is our identity. It is who we are. The reason the insults affect us so much is because we know we aren’t those things. We know that we are not rapists, drug dealers, or criminals. We are human beings.

I was born in America to Mexican parents. My entire life I have told people I am a Mexican-American. Mexican because of the blood that flows through my veins and American because this country is the only one I call home.

If Trump devaluing an entire ethnicity isn’t enough to convince you not to vote for him, then think of all the other communities he’s insulted. Women, other ethnic groups, and people with disabilities have also been insulted by a man who wants to be president and currently leading in the polls.

Donald Trump is a bully. He is not the type of man who we should have or want as president. All he has done so far is insult practically everyone expect for white supremacists. The only good thing that has come out of this is that Latinos and Hispanics have realized that they don’t want to be insulted anymore. They have decided it’s time they were given respect.

President Trump wouldn’t make America great. America isn’t perfect and she probably will never be, but it is our duty to get her as close to perfect as we can. Getting rid of racism would be a step in the right direction, and we can’t do that if our president is a racist. So please, DUMP TRUMP.

This is the second article of the column titled “Living in White America.” Every month there will be a new article discussing how one immigrant group, Hispanics/Latinos, live in America. This column will have articles dealing with anything and everything that concerns Hispanics/Latinos, this could include political and social talks. Some articles may discuss a culture of a different Hispanic or Latino group and interviews with a variety of Hispanics/Latinos will be added as well as interviews with non-Hispanics/non-Latinos asking for their opinion. Discrimination against Hispanics and Latinos has gone on long enough and now it’s time people get a look into a world they dislike so much.
