Douglas: Garza’s return spells historic upcoming season for Iowa

Iowa athletics hasn’t seen a decision of this magnitude in 35 years. Not since the winter of 1985 to be exact when star quarterback Chuck Long announced he would return to Iowa to help the Hawkeyes get a shot at a national championship and a Heisman Trophy. Instead of the gridiron, this decision came on the hardwood, and the subject of the decision was Luka Garza. His decision? It’s time to ramp up for the winter of 2020-21 as the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year. The consensus 1st-team All-American is returning to Iowa City for his senior season. … Continued

Written contributions from Jaden Amjadi, Sydney Sjobakken, and Derek Tate Illuminati Hotties – Free I.H: This is not the One You’ve Been Waiting For Everything about the presentation of this new record from Illuminati Hotties–from its status as a mixtape to its name–implies it is meant to be taken more as an interim before their real sophomore album. 28-year-old Tremayne “Duke” Clemons has been falsely accused of a shooting in Coralville, and eight months later is still in jail. He was questioned and was able to prove that he had no connection, but was held in jail. Polices obtained an illegal urine sample, and since Duke had marijuana in his system they felt that they could keep him in custody. Duke’s trial is set for August 17, and he … Continued

It’s Just Cy-Hawk: #19 Iowa 18, Iowa State 17

It was two hours and 55 minutes…no, not the game length. That was the total time each team spent in the locker room due to severe weather in the Ames area on Saturday afternoon. In any normal Saturday, the lightning delay would’ve been the big story. But, with College Gameday, A quirky game, and a group of students storming the field during the delay, it was an act in a four-part play. The 19th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes took down Iowa State for their fifth straight win in the Cy-Hawk Series. The final score was as quirky as the game itself: 18-17. … Continued

Iowa’s new QB throws for 3 TDs in win over Wyoming IOWA CITY – It wasn’t an ideal start, but new Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley got the job done in his first career start on Saturday. After not completing a pass in the whole first quarter, Stanley settled in and connected for three touchdown passes to lead the Hawkeyes to a 24-3 win over Wyoming. “I was really impressed with him,” said Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz. “He went through some tough times out there… The whole team responded to the bumps, but I thought he did too.” It certainly … Continued
