Album Review: Projection Room by Sleepy Kitty

Sleepy Kitty – Projection Room (2014)

Sleepy Kitty – Projection Room

Two and a half years after Sleepy Kitty’s debut release, “Infinity City”, the Chicago-based indie duo is back again with another alluring full length album.

“Projection Room” packs a more prominent 1960’s surf-rock punch than its predecessor, and already has you wanting to drive to the nearest beach with the top down during the first full track “Don’t You Start”.

Frontwoman Paige Brubeck displays her wide and upbeat vocal range throughout the album, being most diverse on tracks like “What Are You Gonna Do When You Find Bigfoot?”, “Godard Protagonist Inflection”, and “Batman: The Ride”, which all sound like they can easily fit into a Quentin Tarantino film.

Evan Sult provides drums and vocals that tie the album together into one magnificent birthday present that can’t wait to be opened.  Sleepy Kitty will surprise you at every turn with the musical genius that spawns from the two members.

Whether you’ve enjoyed material from similar artists like Best Coast or Old Lights (or if you’re brand new to the genre of indie/rock), this album is a must have!  “Projection Room” will definitely find a spot on your playlist for those memorable days under the warm summer sun.

Overall, this album gets 5/5 stars for production quality, diverse and developed songs, and the variety of emotions that the album evokes.  Enjoy!
