FDU no match for Iowa Hawkeyes

Fairleigh Dickinson put a scare in Hawkeye fans for about a minute and a half and then Iowa took over.  FDU jutted out to a 6-0 lead and then Iowa went on a 19-0 run to blow the game wide open.  It would stay that way throughout the rest of the night as the Iowa Hawkeyes captured their 10th victory of the year.  They won the game 92-59.

It was Iowa’s bench that really gave the team a spark. Jarrod Uthoff and Zach McCabe were two key players in that big run Iowa went on.  Hawkeye senior forward Melsahn Basabe was also instrumental in helping the Hawkeyes break the game open.  Iowa led by 21 points at halftime and one major area that Iowa really dominated was the glass.  The Hawkeyes out-rebounded FDU 30-13 in the first half and 54-32 for the game.

It was a very balanced attack once again of the Hawkeyes.  Five players scored in double figures with Gabriel Olaseni being the high man at 14 points. Basabe chipped in 12, while Zach McCabe and Jarrod Uthoff totaled 10 a piece.

Iowa also had three players in double figures.  Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff all recorded double digit points and rebounds on the night.  I’m willing to bet the last time Iowa had three guys record double doubles in the same game, I wasn’t even alive.

Four of the five guys that were in double figures come off the bench of the Hawkeyes, which again speaks to the depth of this team.

“The bench has been great.” – Fran McCaffery

The moral of this story is that Iowa dominated in every facet of the game.  Which is a big confidence builder as they head into their showdown with the 17th ranked Cyclones from Iowa State.

That game will take place on Friday evening at Hilton Coliseum.  Tip off for the  game is set for 8:30 p.m.
