After being down by as many as 20 in the first half, Iowa women’s basketball couldn’t battle back against the No. 16 ranked Colorado Buffaloes. Iowa ended up losing the game 90-87 despite the fact that Iowa played a sloppy first half in their first road game.

Samantha Logic did everything in her power to try and give Iowa their first lead of the game late, but came up short finishing with 26 points, 6 assists. Iowa outscored Colorado 52-42 in the second half of the game, giving the Buffaloes their real first scare of the season.

“We just got our heads straight at halftime,” Lisa Bluder said of her teams effort.

That effort wasn’t enough though according to Bluder,

“I wish we would have started the game like that.”

Some costly late free throws potentially cost Iowa the game late, the team finished 21-of-32 from the line, something that will have to drastically improve if Iowa wants to win close games down the stretch.

“It’s unfortunate because we were out-rebounded by nine, they shot better from the free throw line and those are things we can control,” Bluder said about her teams performance.

Overall, a very below average first half was too big of a deficit to overcome for Iowa, who will travel to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa on Sunday.

Iowa now moves to 4-1 on the season. More coverage on the game to come tomorrow including quotes, player grades and a look forward.
