Placeholder

The Iowa volleyball team came into Saturday’s game with Indiana looking to snap a nine game losing streak. The Hoosiers also were fighting a losing streak, entering Iowa City on a two-matck skid. It was the Indiana streak that came to an end, as the Hoosiers topped the Hawkeyes, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.

The Hawkeyes took a 3-1 lead in an opening set that would tip back and forth throughout. The teams stayed even for the set’s entirety, as the score sat at 12-12 near the midway point of the opener. Despite a remarkable play from Bethany Yeager to nearly save the point, the Hawkeyes were unable to top the Hoosiers, giving Indiana a 25-21 victory in the first set.

The Hawkeyes started slow in the second set, and the Hoosiers grabbed an early 10-6 lead. However, the Hawkeyes rallied, taking a 17-15 lead over Indiana, but the Hoosiers battled back, finally claiming a 25-23 victory for a 2-0 advantage.

In the final set, the Hawkeyes came out looking dead, and another three-set loss seemed inevitable. The Hawkeyes trailed 20-10 late in the set. Despite a brief comeback, the Hoosiers would claim the set 25-16, and claim a 3-0 triumph in the match.

Indiana’s Jordan Haverly led the way with 14 kills and 7 digs, and Indiana’s Samantha Thrower had 11 kills. For Iowa, Alex Lovell led the team with 13 kills, Rachael Bedell had 10 kills, and Bethany Yeager had 17 digs. The loss extends Iowa’s losing streak to 10.
