Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, an original bluegrass group based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, hit the scene at Iowa Public Radio’s Java Blend Stage November 9.

The band played several tracks from their latest album, Release Your Shrouds, including favorites like “My Side of the Mountain” and “The Power.” And you could tell even from their sound check that the band is smooth.

The group consists of Lindsay Rilko on rhythm guitar and vocals,  Josh Rilko on mandolin, Spencer Cain on bass, Keith Bilik on banjo, and Mark Lavengood on dobro guitar.

As a whole, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys have distinct harmonious sound that makes the band one simultaneous explosion of bluegrass.

And when the group gets going, it really gets going. The amount of energy onstage and in the music inspires moments of pure joy you can only get from their boisterous solos and catchy rhythms.

The album Release Your Shrouds features a wide variety of bluegrass, ranging anywhere from stomping beats with Lindsay Lou’s roaring vocals, to some of their sweeter melodies like “Lemon Squeezy” and even the spicy Spanish song “Querrida Tierra”.

The concert will air on Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One stream on December 1st.
