Iowa Hawkeyes host Boise State Broncos Live Blog

The Iowa Hawkeyes came into this one off big wins against Drake and Central Arkansas and are looking to put up a another against a 9-3 Boise State team at Carver before going into the B1G conference season. The fans are packing Carver for a big game against the Blue and Orange. Getting a win in front of a pocked house would be great for Fran’s bunch going forward with Purdue coming to town next Wednesday the 28th in what will prove to be a highly attended and anticipated game for the Hawks.

Update: 7:25 remaining in the first half and Iowa leads 20-19. The fans are getting into it here at Carver with a lot of cheers. The Broncos are looking to gain the lead after a controversial out of bounds call on the offensive side of the ball for the Black and Gold. Marble put it on the glass on the underneath come-backer and Basabe tipped it in to tie the game up at 22 with just under 6 minutes left in the half. The ball comes back to Iowa and Oglesby hits the deep Jay to put the Hawks up 25-22, but they aren’t done scoring yet, with Marble drawing the foul and hitting both, Hawkeyes up 27-22 with 5:21 left in the first.

4:53 left in the half and a thunderous jam off the steal by Marble and the fans are loving it here at Carver, Hawks up by 7, their largest lead of the night thus far. Boise takes a time-out and Carver erupts!

2:33 remaining in the first and Boise goes on a nice 7 point run to tie the game back up at 29. It seems like there will be no easy big leads for Fran’s bunch in this contest. Iowa has the ball back, looking to end the scoring drought and get back ahead. They are running Cartwright and Marble both in the game at the same time and hoping to focus on ball control and passing.

Nearing Half-time here with under 2 minutes remaining and the storyline has been the youngsters scoring the majority of the points for the Hawks with Marble sitting at 9 and White with 10. Iowa is trying to contain a clearly potent Boise State team, with the score at 33-31 Iowa in the waning moments of the half.
Cartwright tries to take it himself, but can’t convert and on the defensive end gets a big board, but can’t complete the long full-court pass to Basabe and the Broncos will take over with 40 seconds left.

The Broncos are able to convert as the half expires and the score is tied at 33 at the break. White leads Iowa with 10 points and Marble has 9, Basabe has 9 rebounds.

The start of the second half gets underway with the 13,000+ fans at Carver making some noise for the Hawkeyes as they enter the floor behind Herky and the big flags and the Fight Song.
Play is underway and the Broncos strike first, but Gatens draws a foul on a pull-up jumper and drains the freebie. Score 36-35, Hawkeyes.
The Hawks look very good in transition with Marble dishing to Gatens, and the senior getting the look-back to May for the trey. Boise answers with a deep one of its own, but Basabe gets a big And-1 at the other end. 41-38 after Basabe’s free throw clangs out.

Everything the Hawkeyes do continues to get negated at the other end of the floor with Boise answering yet again. 45-43, Hawks after a big 2 by Basabe.
Basabe hits another on a pull up jumper, but Boise brings it down, kicks it out and hits another big three.
Marble takes it himself to bring the lead back to Iowa 49-48, and a big block by Basabe puts the ball back into the hands of the Hawkeye offense, 13:01 remaining.

Aaron White will get off the bench, back in the for the Hawks with Brommer, Oglesby, Gatens, and Cartwright. Cartwright goes back to the point, and White immediately makes an impact drawing the foul and getting the basket to fall. He shoots, and drills the free one. Hawks by 4. There is a timeout on the floor after Carwright goes to the bucket, but gets fouled hard on the play. He will shoot 2.
11:44 remaining, Cartwright makes 1 of 2 and the ball goes back the other way. Aaron White shows some great hustle with the ball on the ground and gets a time-out called with his team leading 53-48, Iowa ball.
Iowa’s White takes to the basket and throws a floater up, but the ref pounds the fist in the air signaling charge, and BSU converts on the other end. The fans wanted a travel there, but they don’t get it. White answers with a clean lay-in at the other end to put the Hawks up 57-52, 8:17 left.
Gatens goes up for a big rebound, and is hacked hard from behind. Fran is letting the refs have an ear full. After a missed shot, Boise hits another big 3 to bring the score back to tied.
Aaron White makes a pair of free-throws on the offensive end and then pounds the floor on the defensive end to cause a tie-up, giving his squad the ball back with 6:01 left, and the lead.
The crowd EXPLODES at Carver as Basabe slams the ball against the defensive glass with a huge block, leading to the Gatens lay-in, Hawks up 65-57 with 5:03 remaining and the momentum. Boise State Bronco time-out.
Roy Devyn Marble is separating himself in this game again with another great take-it-himself on the play, but Boise answers again with a lay-up, posting up Basabe.
A little craziness at the scores table as the buzzer goes off due to the shot clock not resetting, but the Hawkeyes will maintain possession of the ball with 3:46 to play and a 6 point lead.
A great hustle play after a missed free throw by Oglesby and the Hawks retain possession, up 7. The hustle pays off as Marble gets fouled and converts both shots. Boise will need to hurry the ball now. They force up an three and Marble comes down with a powerful rebound. Oglesby will head to the line after Boise fouls.
Oglesby misses the first, but makes the second to put Iowa up 10.
Boise answers,but it could be too little too late as the fans are starting to head towards the exits with 1:01, 73-67, Black and Gold.
Josh Oglesby is getting some quality minutes at the end of this game because of his free throw shooting ability and he drains two easy ones for the Hawks.
The fouls begin and Gatens goes to the line with 38.7 left, Hawkeyes up 6. Gatens hits both and Basabe lays one in with 15.7 left to put Iowa up 10.

The Hawkeye fans are on their feet as their team in victorious at Carver, 81-71 over the Boise State Broncos. Boise State moves to 9-4 on the young year and the Hawkeyes get to 8-5 with the B1G season looming next week, with the Purdue Boilermakers coming to town.
