Yo La Tengo is a creative force to be reckoned with and a darling of music critics far and wide. Despite their minimal mainstream success, the New Jersey-based noise pop group celebrates the twenty-five year anniversary of their first release in 2011.

And the group’s cult-like following could not be happier.

Yo La Tengo’s June 21 show in Iowa City is a continuation of their “Spinning Wheel” tour, in which audience members spin a giant wheel on the stage to determine what type of set is played. This Wheel of Fortune-esque action could lead to the group playing a set of only songs beginning with the letter “G.” Or it could lead to the band acting out an entire episode of Seinfeld, as unsuspecting attendees of one Chicago show found out. After all the shenanigans, however, Yo La Tengo always returns to the stage to play a normal set. A true daily double!
