Junip By Kendall McCabe

The music of Junip dramatizes what could have been the solo music of indie vocalist/guitarist José González. While the guitar and quiet vocals of González alone might have otherwise fallen flat, the band heightens the tension and exaggerates the nuances of the compositions with synths, drums, and organs. The result is cloudy, dreamy, and intensely melodic indie folk.

Formed in the late 90s in Gothenburg Sweden, the band is led by guitarist/vocalist José González, who has his own well-established solo career. He is joined by Elias Araya on drums and Tobias Winterkorn, who plays the organ.

Junip released an initial 7-inch in 2000, followed by their Black Refuge EP in 2005. After a nearly five-year hiatus, Junip released their first full-length, Fields, in September 2010.
